Old Thinking to New Thinking!
"You don't create things that you want. You create things that you give your attention to, whether you want them or not." Abraham - Excerpted from an Abraham-Hicks workshop in Los Angeles, CA on April 1, 2007 (Abraham-Hicks.com)
Once we start studying the Law Of Attraction we must accept that with our thoughts we attract and create our reality. That's the basic teaching, that positive or negative, what we believe and focus upon, we attract and therefore create in our lives.
Abraham says that we don't have to change our thinking on any subject to effect change on that subject. All we have to do is focus on other subjects that do feel good, and not think about the thing that doesn't feel good anymore.
I understand what they mean and know in my heart that on the simple subjects in my life this is easy. However for me it doesn't work so easily with subjects I have a lifetime of strong beliefs behind, those subjects on which I have created a strong current by pushing against them. Such as my body, I have simply never found it easy to distract myself from noticing the condition and size of my physical body.
Abraham has also used the example of a semi-truck, and how when it's flying down the highway it has huge forward momentum behind it. With that type of powerful forward force, it's not so easy to turn. It is possible . . . but it's definitely not easy to change direction fast. To be able to turn safely and easily the truck has to slow the momentum down somewhat first.
Abe talks about our vibration being like that momentum. When we get a powerful vibration going on a particular subject it has a lot of forward momentum to it, so it's not so easy to change direction quickly. For those subjects often we have to put the effort into slowing the momentum somewhat . . . the vibration of our current thoughts.
For me, simply turning away from thoughts about my body hasn't worked. I've got too much vibrational momentum going on the subject. To create a different physical reality I need to change how I feel about it. I have to stop old patterned thoughts as they happen, and look at each as it crosses my mind. I've got to evaluate it, and change it to something new and powerful.
I also need to change the setting on the thought. Change it from its current "auto" setting where it pops up automatically at the least provocation. At the least I want to set it at "rarely", but honestly I'd like to get to where that old thinking is set at "off" so they aren't habitual with me anymore.
The only way I know to do that is to purposefully arm myself with positive, uplifting replacement thoughts I can use when those old patterned thoughts crop up. To be armed so the minute a negative, and powerless feeling thought pops into my head, it becomes merely a trigger to release a powerful, new line of thinking with which to replace it. I want to create an association between each negative thought and a string of new, aligned, powerful thoughts.
For instance one of my most strongly held beliefs was "diets don't work!"
The problem with that thought for me was that I believed along with everyone else in the world that the only way to lose weight was to diet. I had no evidence that simply wanting to lose weight is enough to make it happen without some type of action. Without evidence to the contrary, most of us believe the only action that causes our bodies to become thinner is dieting. Or a mixture of will power, dieting and lots of exercise.
Since I also believe the mere concept of will-power is a superstition invented by people trying to motivate others to do what they want them to do . . . and that exercise, if not a fun activity, is grueling and painful work . . . and toss in my strong lifetime belief that diets don't work . . . and I've created a iron clad belief structure which made it impossible for me to allow my body to release weight no matter how much I wanted it.
The simple thought might have been "diets don't work" but the truth behind my vibration about it was "diets don't work, will-power is a superstition, exercise is grueling work, I'll never lose weight, I'm a hopeless failure." Pretty powerful and creative thinking huh?
Once I realized the complexity of the vibration around that simple thought I had no choice but to figure out how to change my thinking, and therefore my vibration.
I started with the basics, lots of diets do work. I've followed most all of them at one time or an other and I've had various amounts of success with most all of them. They DO work, I'm the evidence, I've probably lost (and gained back) at least 1000 pounds over the course of my life (maybe more) . . . no exaggeration.
So I started to look at diets from a Spiritual point of view.
Every diet on the market started as an inspiration in someone's mind. An inspiration meant for them, for the purpose of losing weight, or helping others to lose, and some I'm sure just for the purpose of earning them a lot of money. Whatever the reason, they are all divinely inspired (everything is after all) and many of them do work. They simply weren't necessarily inspired in someone else . . . to work for me!
The truth is, almost any diet will work if the person using it believes in it strongly enough. If they believe, allow it and have little or no resistance. That's evidenced by the myriad of unusual diets in the world, or even better, the opposition of diets in the world (mostly fats-low fats, low carbs-mostly carbs, etc.)
That lead me to realize my truth has always been that I never wanted to have to stay on any known diet for the rest of my life. And staying on them is the reality of dieting, they are only successful as long as you continue to follow them.
I stopped blaming diets and realized they can work, and they often do.
I also had to admit no one else's diet fits in with my desires for weight loss and health.
OK, that feels better, no longer blaming diets. Taking responsibility for my own desires.
But where does that leave me. I've identified a bit of my old thinking, and taken the bite out of it. Now it's time to create a bridge of new thoughts I can use as steps to replace it.
Old Thinking: "Diets don't work, I'll never lose weight."
New Thinking Bridge:
- Diets do work for many, many millions of people.
- Diets have worked for me many times in my life.
- I simply choose not to use a diet I must rigidly maintain for the rest of my life.
- There are lots of choices, and following any diet is just a choice.
- When I dieted in the past, the hard part for me was sticking to the diet, the losing weight part my body handled pretty easily for me.
- Diets aren't bad or good, they're just generalized action plans inspired in the minds of other "experts" as answers to their individual asking.
- I have within me the perfect and only expert on what works for me!
- My thoughts and vibration control my body and I control my thoughts and vibration!
- Will power may be a superstition, but inspiration definitely is real!
- I'm a divine extension of Source with my own personal, perfect guidance system!
- All the answers relative to my life are already within me, all I have to do is ask and listen!
- I'm creating my own, perfect, personal diet which is guaranteed to work for me!!!!
- And I love MY diet!!!
Now that's a vibration I can get into! I am creating my own personally customized, successful diet! I have all the answers in me and I'm doing something wonderful and exciting about it now!
I have created my "thought bridge", my tool for taking old thinking to new thinking.
So the next time the thought "diets don't work" pops into my mind, instead of feeling frustrated, I'll begin to smile and remember that diets do work, in fact they work quite well.
I'll remind myself it was never the diet, it was always my thinking, and that I was following someone else's inspired ideas instead of my own. I'll remember that I'm now choosing my thoughts the same way I am creating a new experience for myself though those thoughts.
In the beginning depending on where the thought came from and how strongly I'm feeling it, I might have to work my way along the bridge using the statements above. However I know it won't take long before I can sail over the bridge straight from "diets don't work" to "I'm creating my own, perfect, personal diet which is guaranteed to work for me and I love it!!!!!"
And then it won't be long before the old patterned thought "diets don't work, I can't lose weight" is turned "off" permanently and dissolves from my thought repertoire entirely. Not long before it is replaced with my new beliefs and a powerful vibration of "I am losing weight now!"
I love replacing old thinking with new empowered thinking!
Much love on your adventure in changing old thinking patterns to new powerful beliefs,

Tiger Lily: Another fabulous post. Loved the bridge you built to your own personal point of power.
On a related issue: I've been doing envisioning exercises as described and recommended by Abe. At first it was hard to remember back to being the size I want to be again, but I am now to the point where I can close my eyes anywhere and capture the feeling tone of "trim-but-curvy size 8". What vitality and radiance I felt and projected! Life was so easy and fun when walking was striding and I could bend at the waist and touch the floor with my palms! I just bring that feeling into NOW and I can easily spend 17 seconds in that space, and add more 17-second increments when I'm in bed or in the shower, undisturbed.
So it is always so very shocking when I encounter a mirror! I have yet to be able to remain powerful when I walk by a full length mirror or plate glass window. How it FEELS to me is like a sudden slap across the face, and I am always so disconcerted, that I'm unable to maintain my hi vibe. I've tried framing affirmations in advance, but they just aren't accessible to me when faced with an unexpected mirror image. Have you got any thoughts on this? Any powerful processes you've used?
Enjoying each and every one of your lucid, honest, probing posts. Glad you're here for me as I sift through my own set of contrasts.
All is well...Radiance Project

Wow RP, it must be wonderful to have such vivid remembrances of being trim and curvy! And how powerfully you describe them. I can feel you attracting it back to your life!
I don't have any trim and curvy memories. I have to imagine my body that way because I've never experienced it that way. But I love reading your description, the energy from it just radiates out. I know you are getting there, 17 second increments at a time!
I loved your questions about encountering mirrors, so much so that I've decided to write an entire post on that subject. It will post today, thank you!
